Australia: Where the Summer never ends

If you don’t want this fantastic summer to end, head down under this winter where you will find not only superb weather but pristine beaches, vibrant cities, stunning scenery, weird and wonderful wildlife, in fact you will find all this and much more when you visit Australia.

The most popular itinerary for first time visitors to Australia is an east coast extravaganza taking in the Icons of Sydney and the Barrier Reef as well as some of the less well known sites but equally inspiring such as Fraser Island and Lamington National Park. Soft adventure is very much high on the list, Treetop walks and 4 wheel drive tours through the dense sub-tropical rainforest, with time out at Lake Mckenzie to swim in the crystal clear waters and marvel at your surroundings, that could easily be mistaken for an idyllic beach in the Indian Ocean, all of this and much more can be found as meander up the east coast.

A typical Australia itinerary will include time in Sydney; this exciting and vibrant city always has plenty to offer from breathtaking Harbour views to singing waiters at the Opera House. Once out of town the 800 mile drive north to Brisbane has plenty of opportunities to break the journey and you can expect the warmest of welcomes with The Blue Mountains, Hunter Valley and Port Stephens amongst the most popular stopover destinations. As you amble up the coast your time will be easily spent with bushwalking, fine dinning, wine tasting, dolphin watching, surfing, in fact the list is almost endless.

On arrival in Brisbane we recommend that you hand back the car and let Queensland Rail take control, the journey North to Cairns on the Sunlander (Queenslander class) is a fantastic experience where you get the opportunity unwind and relax in the company of you fellow passengers. The rail journey north to Prosperine and the Whitsundays is very much part of the whole holiday experience rather than just a means of travel. Queenslander Class on The Sunlander, discerning travellers will relish the pleasure of Queenslander class, exclusive to The Sunlander. It’s an award winning experience featuring sumptuous fine dining and exceptional personal service.
There are a myriad of special touches including fresh seafood and local produce, an exclusive lounge car where fellow travellers happily become friends and a dedicated maitre d’ attending to your every need.
On arrival at Proserpine you will be seamlessly transferred to Airlie Beach, gateway to the Whitsundays, it is easy to believe that you have landed at Paradise. These picture perfect islands with endless ways to explore mean you will find it difficult to leave.
The final leg of the journey is taken on the state of the art Tilt Train from Proserpine to Cairns. Cairns is the central hub for Tropical North Queensland and has an array of accommodation options to suite all tastes and makes for a great base to visit the Reef and rainforests of this region. A day out on the Reef is an absolute must where you will have time to snorkel or dive and learn about this amazing eco system. For those who do not wish to get their feet wet there are glass bottom boat and semi submersible options. The Rain forest is the other great attraction, taking the Kuranda Rail service up the mountain makes for a wonderful experience for adults and children alike. Having spent time at Kuranda Village, what better way to return than by Skyrail. The Skyrail Rainforest Cableway experience spans 7.5kms over Australia’s pristine tropical rainforests. You’ll glide just metres above the rainforest canopy before descending through the canopy layers and deep into the heart of the forest at Skyrail’s two rainforest mid-stations for the ultimate tropical rainforest experience.
