If you are looking for a romantic holiday, a holiday of a lifetime maybe to celebrate a major anniversary or birthday, luxury train travel should be high on your list. There are plenty of options to choose from, The Orient Express, The Ghan, Rocky Mountaineer, Rovos Rail, but none are as grand or romantic as the Maharajas Express. The Maharajas’ Express journeys take the legacy of royal travel to new heights, a train journey that simply oozes excitement and romance. You would be hard pushed to find a more exciting itinerary that can offer such famous names as Agra, Ranthambore, Jaipur, Bikaner and Jodhpur whilst the pure luxury, attention to detail and general character of a gone by era can’t help but bring out the romance in you.
The Maharajas Express will take you back to a time when travel was very different to today, a time when the Maharajas of India travelled with literally everything from the kitchen sink to the four poster bed. Whilst you won’t find a kitchen sink in your cabin you will find them to be spacious and beautifully  appointed, boasting hand painted ceilings and bathroom tiles, a very comfortable double bed, huge windows and a state of the art TV/DVD player.
Amongst its public rooms the train has 2 fine-dining restaurants, The very opulent Mayur Mahal, a 42 seater restaurant that has a ceiling of mirrored mosaic tiles and peacock patterned high back chairs with matching window blinds. The exotic Safari Bar offers the choicest collection of house brand wine, beer and spirits whilst the Raja Club lounge allows for the most comfortable of surroundings.
With all the luxury and pampering on board the Maharajas Express, some may find it difficult to leave the train and explore all that India has to offer, but with such highlights as a champagne lunch on a hillock overlooking the Taj Mahal, elephant polo matches in Jaipur and tiger spotting in Ranthambore National Park you have no choice but to put down your G&T and get up from your comfy leather chair and head off in search of the adventures and excitment that await you.
There are currently five itineraries on offer, Heritage, Treasures, Gems, Panorama and Splendour of India ranging from 4 to 8 days in length, The Heritage and Splendour run between Delhi and Mumbai and vice versa whilst the Treasures and Gems  are circular itineraries taking in Agra and the Taj Mahal, the tigers of Ranthambore and Jaipurs Amber Fort.  Last but not least the Panorama of India offers an 8 day circle tour from Delhi taking all the major sites of above plus the Holy city of Varanasi and the ghost town of Fatehpur Sikri.  All itineraries can be booked as either stand alone packages or part of a tailored itinerary to suit your personal requirements, with before and after tours, hotels etc.
